The short version
- We don't sell your information. The site has no accounts, sign-up forms, ads or social media trackers.
- Our one form, for listing requests, sends what you type to our inbox through Resend, our email sender. The site itself stores none of it.
- Our host, Vercel, receives the basic details every website receives, such as your IP address.
- The map on our home page comes from OpenStreetMap, which also receives your IP address. If you search the map for a place we don't list, OpenStreetMap receives what you typed.
- The "Coffee near me" button uses your location on your own device, and the site never sends it anywhere.
- We don't run analytics or set cookies yet.
- Questions and requests: joe@specialtycoffeenearme.com.
Who we are
Specialty Coffee Near Me is run by Greenlight Systems LLC, a Hawaii company. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the company that runs the site. We decide how the site uses personal information, which in European law makes us the controller.

What leaves your browser
Every website your browser visits receives some details about the request. This table lists what our site sends, and to whom.
| When you | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| Open any page | Your IP address, browser and device type, the page address and the time | Vercel, our host |
| Open the home page or move its map | Your IP address, browser and device type, and our site's address | OpenStreetMap Foundation, for the map images |
| Search the map for a place we don't list | What you typed, plus the details above | OpenStreetMap Foundation, for the place search |
| Tap "Coffee near me" | Nothing. Your location stays on your device | No one |
| Open any page (fonts) | Nothing extra. We host our own fonts | No one else |
| Send the listing form | What you type in it, plus your IP address, the approximate location it points to, your browser's details and how long the page was open | Resend, which sends it to our inbox at Google, our email provider |
| Email us | Your email address and your message | Us, through Google, our email provider |
| Click a link to another site | The usual request details. Some links also tell that site you came from ours | That site |
Our host
Vercel Inc. hosts the site, as our service provider. Each time your browser loads something from the site, Vercel receives your IP address, your browser and device type, the page address and the time. It uses these to deliver the page and keep the site running and secure, and keeps them in logs for a limited time (see How long we keep it).
The map
The map on our home page is drawn from OpenStreetMap. When the home page opens, your browser asks the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF) for the map images it needs, and for more as you move or zoom. Those requests carry your IP address, your browser and device type, and our site's address. No cookies are involved. OSMF says it logs these details, and that the content delivery networks it uses may collect personal data too. OSMF decides how it uses this data, under its own privacy policy at osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy. No other page on our site loads the map.
Map search
When you search on the map, the page first looks for a match in our own list of places, on your device. If it finds none, it sends what you typed to OSMF's place-search service, Nominatim, with the same request details, to find the place. If you type your own street address, OSMF receives it. The city search box at the top of the home page only looks in our own list, on your device. Picking a city simply opens its page.
"Coffee near me"
The bean button next to the search box finds the nearest city in our directory. It works only if you tap it and then allow your browser to share your location. The page compares your location with our list of cities on your own device, then opens the nearest city's page. Your location is not sent to us or to anyone else, and we don't store it. Your browser or phone works out the location itself, under its own settings. Opening the city page is an ordinary page visit, so our host sees which page opened, as with any visit.
Analytics
We don't run analytics on the site yet. Nothing on the site measures your visit, and nothing sends details of it to an analytics company. If we add analytics, this page will describe it, and the choices you'll have, before it goes live.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: because the site runs no analytics or tracking, there's nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off today.
Cookies
The site doesn't set cookies, and it doesn't save anything in your browser's storage. The map, map search and fonts use none.
Emails you send us
When you email us, for example to suggest a shop, correct a listing or ask about this policy, your own email app sends the message. We receive your email address, your name if your email shows it, and whatever you write or attach. We use it to answer you and to add or correct listings, which we write in our own words. We don't publish your email. Our email is hosted by Google (Google Workspace), which handles it for us as our service provider. We keep emails for as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a record of changes to the directory, then delete them.
The listing form
The form on our List your shop page is for suggesting a shop and for claiming, correcting or removing a listing. It asks what you'd like us to do, the shop's name, city and country, its website or Instagram, your name, your email address, your connection to the shop (owner, manager, staff or fan), how you heard about us, and a message.
When you send it, it also passes on details that come with any request to our site: your IP address, the approximate location our host works out from it (city, region and country), your browser's description, and how long the page was open. We use those only to spot and block spam.
We use what you send to handle your request: to check the shop, to add or update its listing in our own words, and to reply to you. "How you heard about us" tells us how people find the directory. We don't publish your name or email, we don't add you to a mailing list, and the form doesn't send you an automatic reply.
The site itself stores nothing from the form. It reaches us as an email: Resend sends it, as our service provider, and Google Workspace holds it, like all our email. Resend deletes its copy after 30 days. We keep the email as long as we need it to handle your request and keep a record of changes to the directory, then delete it.
To have us delete what you sent sooner, email joe@specialtycoffeenearme.com from the address you used, and we will delete it from our inbox. Resend deletes its own copy after 30 days.
Shops in our directory
Each listing shows facts about a business: its name, street address, phone number, website, Instagram handle and opening hours, with our own description. We take these facts from the shop's own public information, such as its website, from public records, or from the shop itself. We list business details only, so we don't publish an owner's personal phone number, home address or personal email. Some business facts can still relate to a person, for example when one person runs the shop under their own name.
If you run a listed shop, you can ask us to correct or take down its listing by emailing joe@specialtycoffeenearme.com. If a listing shows something personal, we remove it. We may keep a listing that holds only public facts about a business, such as its name, address, public phone number and website. Our terms of use explain how listing requests work.
Links to other sites
Listings link to each shop's own website and Instagram page where it has them, and to Google Maps for directions and reviews. The map's credits link to OpenStreetMap and Leaflet. Nothing goes to those sites until you click. When you click, you leave our site: the other site receives the usual request details, and its own privacy policy applies. Some links also tell that site you came from ours. A Google Maps link carries the shop's name and address so Maps can find it, and nothing about you.
Paid links
We plan to add affiliate links. An affiliate link earns us a commission if you buy something after clicking it, and each one will be marked "(paid link)" right beside it. The link tells the merchant that you came from us. After you click, the merchant or its affiliate network may set its own cookies on its own site so it can credit the sale to us. That happens on their site, under their privacy policy. We don't ask merchants for your name or contact details.
What we don't do
There are no accounts, sign-up forms, photo uploads, ads or social media tracking pixels (such as the Meta Pixel) on the site, and we don't build advertising profiles of visitors.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first and give you a way to opt out, and we will not sell information collected before the change without your permission. We may publish or license aggregated statistics, such as which cities people look at most. These statistics do not identify you or your device. We keep them in that form, we do not try to re-identify anyone, and we require anyone who receives them to do the same.
If we add anything new that collects information, such as an ad or an account, we will add it to this page before it goes live.
Why we use it
Where the law asks us to name a legal basis (for example in the EEA, the UK, Brazil and Chile), these are ours.
| What we do | Information | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Deliver the site and keep it secure | Request details in our host's logs | Legitimate interests: running a working, secure website |
| Show the map, and find places you search for | Request details, and what you type in the map search | Legitimate interests: giving you the map and the search you asked for |
| Answer your email and keep listings accurate | Your email and message | Legitimate interests: answering you and keeping the directory accurate |
| Handle a request sent through our listing form, and keep the form free of spam | What you type in the form, and the technical details sent with it | Legitimate interests: answering you, keeping the directory accurate and blocking spam |
| Publish shop listings | Business facts, which can relate to an owner | Legitimate interests: a useful, accurate directory of businesses |
You don't have to give us any personal information to use the site, beyond the request details every website receives. If you don't email us or use our form, we can't reply, and that's the only effect. We don't use your information to make automated decisions about you.
Who receives it
- Vercel Inc. hosts the site, as our service provider.
- Google LLC runs our email (Google Workspace), as our service provider.
- Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.) sends messages from our listing form to our inbox, as our service provider.
- The OpenStreetMap Foundation receives map requests and map searches, and decides for itself how to use them.
- Authorities, only if the law requires us to share something.
- A new owner, if we ever sell or transfer the site. The new owner would have to keep using what we hold as this policy describes, or tell you before changing that.
We don't share your information with anyone else.
Where it's handled
Vercel and Google are based in the United States, so your information is handled there, and it may also be handled in other countries where they operate. Both take part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, its UK Extension and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which the EU, the UK and Switzerland accept for sending personal data to US companies that join. Where the frameworks don't apply, we rely on the standard contractual clauses and similar terms in their data processing agreements. Resend is also based in the United States and takes part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension; its data processing terms with us include the standard contractual clauses. OSMF says it stores data other than map-image requests in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
If you're in Quebec, this means your information can be communicated outside Quebec, to the places above.
If you're in Japan: your information is handled in the United States, which has no single, comprehensive national privacy law. Federal laws cover particular sectors, and some states have their own privacy laws.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Our host's request logs | One day, in the logs our hosting plan gives us. Vercel's own security records follow its data processing terms with us |
| Emails | As long as we need them to answer you and keep a record of listing changes |
| Listing form messages | In our inbox, as long as we need them to handle your request and keep a record of listing changes. Resend, which sends them, deletes its copy after 30 days |
| OpenStreetMap's request logs | Set by OSMF. See its privacy policy |
When we no longer need information, we delete it or reduce it to totals that can't identify anyone.
How we protect it
The site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). It has no accounts, so it stores no passwords. Only the people who run the site can reach our hosting and email accounts. Our Managing Member is responsible for how we handle personal information: what we keep, for how long, and how we answer requests and complaints. No website can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your information, we will tell the people affected and the regulators, as the law requires.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct it
- delete it
- limit how we use it, or object to our using it
- give it to you in a format a computer can read, so you can take it elsewhere
In many places these are legal rights, for example under the GDPR in the EEA and the UK, Brazil's LGPD, or the ARCO rights (access, rectification, cancellation and opposition) in Mexico. We answer these requests from everyone.
How to ask. Email joe@specialtycoffeenearme.com with "Privacy request" in the subject line and tell us what you'd like. It's free. We may ask you to confirm the request is yours, for example by replying from the same email address. We reply within 30 days, or sooner if your local law sets a shorter deadline. If we can't do what you ask, for example because the law requires us to keep something, we'll tell you why.
What we can find. Our host's logs aren't tied to names or email addresses, so we usually can't match them to you. If you'd like us to try, tell us what you can, and we'll tell you what we found.
How to complain
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, email us first and we'll try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to a privacy regulator:
- European Economic Area: the data protection authority where you live or work, or where you think the problem happened
- United Kingdom: the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
- Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC)
- Quebec: the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec
- Rest of Canada: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
- Brazil: the Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados (ANPD)
- Chile, from December 1, 2026: the Agencia de Protección de Datos Personales
- Colombia: the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC)
- Anywhere else: the privacy regulator where you live
Children
The site is for a general audience and isn't directed to children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has emailed us, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page before we change how the site handles personal information, and change the date at the top. When a change matters, such as a new tool that collects information, we'll say what changed in the version history below.
